Sunday School - Melt and Pour Soap Making Hands-On

FEBRUARY 5TH 1:30 TO 4PM

cost per person $65

simple, easy and fun - our first hands-on in the new workshop space

join soap maker steve duross for an afternoon in his workshop making big, colorful blocks of soap. you'll get the theory behind how our soap is created with the basic building blocks of ingredients and additives on-hand. however, as the process for creating natural soap is a long, caustic and arduous process, steve will be guiding you through the final stage, the melt and pour phase where you will produce the big soap blocks that will eventually be cut into bars for sale in our shop.

the soap base you'll be working with is vegan, pre-made and melted so that you can focus on the fun, creative part of the craft that we know as melt and pour. you will also have the opportunity to create a few simple bars of your own that reflect your style, esthetic and aroma palette. fragrance oils, extracts and additives will be made available so that you can get creative. the individual bars you make will go home with you.

 - coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served -

unlike many classes and workshops available, our vibe is a bit different. you will be working on the line producing the product to be sold in store. it is not appropriate for anyone who has mobility issues or cannot easily lift at least 25 lbs. we request that you dress for the mess as you will be diving into colors, oils and extracts that will stain (ruin) your clothing. this workshop is approximately 2.5 hours in length.

This is a 12+ age event and inappropriate for younger children. *we require attendees in the workshop to be sober and responsible. we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not comply with our safety practices, is hostile or rude

the workshop at duross & langel - 244 S 11th Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 - please call if you're going to be late 267-854-6288

Messy Mixology Hands-On Workshop

MARCH 2nd 5:45 TO 7:30 PM

SOLD OUT

a "make your own" hands-on class

we begin by making grandma duross' old original eye cream formula from scratch. fire up the stove because we are melting and blending natural oils and nut butters. then we add deionized water and attempt to whip into the perfect frothy, creamy moisturizer without getting any on the walls.

then it's onto luscious lip balms and deliciously edible lip scrubs for sale in the store (and for you to take home). it's a fairly straightforward task as long as we don't burn the oils or spill when pouring.

we close the evening by creating your personal, customized jar of double butter moisturizer complete with extracts, natural additives and fragrance oils. you can get as creative as you like with this one plus you'll have bragging rights when your friends try your swag.

Soy Candle Making 101

MARCH 15TH 5PM TO 7PM

cost per person $75

learn the basics of creating natural, well made, aromatic candles

join chandler + perfumer sarah mckee for an informative, instructive evening of soy wax candle making. the evening begins with a few safety instructions and the basics: choosing wicks, types of oils for candle making, types of wicks containers. then sarah kicks it into gear as this small group of six create a batch of D+L candles to be sold in the store.

in the second round of candle making you can mix it up (literally) by trying your hand at blending waxes as well as different oils to create a wonderfully fragrant, personal candle that you can take home

the evening ends with a handout of all you learned, a list of our favorite places to source materials, and if it’s cooled sufficiently, your candle may leave with you.
